Pern, Innika & Eadie Bo Choo at home in Tiong Bahru, Singapore
Pern – Resort Design Manager, Innika – Freelance stylist & blogger at www.nofauxpas.com
Please tell us something more about your background.
Another Aussie couple very happy to call Asia our home.
What attracted you to this apartment?
We first came to view the property during construction, so it was literally 4 cement walls. I loved the bare, minimal look of it all, so much natural light. Turns out the landlord had different plans and after we had signed the lease we popped in for another look and there were all sorts of walls up, painted an array of colours, folding doors, built-in cupboards – the works. Luckily we convinced her NOT to install the built in furniture; desk, bed and bedside tables. Regardless though we were already in love with the area, and happy to make it our home.
Innika, how would you describe your interior style?
My interior style is literally a result of what I have access to. I tend not to plan these things (or anything really) too much as I don’t like things to look too ‘decorator’. I’d prefer it to look like everything was just sort of chucked together, in an appealing, welcoming, messy sort of way.
What of your personalities can we see in it?
Pern: Happy to please.
Innika: Perhaps you might be drawn in by the colourful, messy, imaginative whirlwind of it all.
How do you balance a beautiful home with the demands of a young family?
Pern: I’m a Libran, balance comes easy. Argue with the girls then let them have their way.
Innika: My head does happen to bubble over from time to time with weird and wonderful ideas, many of them half started. As soon as little Eadie’s hand are capable, I’ll be putting those nimble fingers to work.
Innika, do you have any traditions in regards to holiday decorating?
Does spray paint count as a tradition? For some reason, every year I end up spray painting something. I do love making Christmas deco’s out of re-purposed items. I have a grand idea to one year make a christmas tree solely out of recycled green pellegrino bottles… one year, I will do this. Can you imagine the beautiful light!!
Pern, do you have any tips for other young families?
Stay young. Keep it light.
What is a forbidden word in your house?
Pern: There are none. Rules are made to be broken.
Famous last words:
Eadie has very quickly claimed “no” to be a popular talk back. Quickly follows by, “uh ohh”.
