Amy Yap & Niki Yapp
Owners of One Olive
61 Seng Poh Lane, #01-01 Singapore 160061

Please tell us something more about your background. Did you train to become a florist or is it intuitive?
Amy: I studied in La Salle College of Arts and finished with a diploma in fashion design. After that, I was trained at Boerma Institut in Holland, and received a Masteral degree on Dutch floral design. For me, floristry is a perfect world. It is more than what you can see and smell. It is a world of aesthetics that revolve on evolution and design.

Niki: I was trained in graphic design and also studied environmental design in Australia. Inspired by my parents, my love for the nature plays a big part and has brought me to the floral world.

Amy, could you tell us a little bit about your business and the services you offer?
One Olive provides and crafts bespoke flowers, event floral design, decorative pieces, corporate and hospitality florals, weddings and creative workshops. We have seasonal potted greens specially customized for any homes. We also offer bespoke preserved rose pieces from Japan that are beautifully crafted into table floral pieces.

And as a tribute to our resident cat, Sunday, we have designed kitty poufs under the label “sundaylechat”.

Amy,  where do you draw inspiration for your designs?
Food, fashion, travels and animals inspire me. During my floristry course in Holland, I’ve met so many beautiful people who taught me how to appreciate and respect each and every flower growers.

The painstaking effort of growing every single flower simply inspires me. How the flowers are being picked and arranged have driven me to flaunt off the texture, composition and details in my work. That said, it definitely equates to what we smell, breathe and see.

Niki, what music do you like to listen to when designing flowers?
Purely jazz.
